Gerard Timoner ocn las monjas dominicas de Caleruega

The Monastery of Dominican nuns in Caleruega is the first in Spain to pass under the jurisdiction of the Master of the Order

The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (CIVCSVA) has announced that the Holy See has approved the transfer of the Royal Monastery of St. Dominic in Caleruega from the particular supervision of the Diocesan Bishop (LCM 174 § III) to the supervision of the Master of the Order (LCM 174 § II). This is the first Dominican monastery in Spain to request this change.

The Master of the Order, having heard the Chapter of the monastery, has appointed fr Juan Carlos Cordero de la Hera, O.P. as his vicar for the monastery for a three-year term. The Vicar will be the first point of reference for the matters that universal law and the Constitutions entrust to the “regular superior” or “religious ordinary” of the Monastery.

The Dominican nuns of Caleruega remain fully part of the local church of Burgos, and the Archbishop retains the responsibilities mentioned in Cor orans, art. 83.

This step represents a new bond that will serve to further strengthen the spiritual fraternity between the nuns of Caleruega and the Master of the Order, successor of St. Dominic of Guzman.
